The most common keyed entry will allow the person to slide the bolt into the door jamb. This is one of the most secure lock to use because it is not angled and nearly impossible to be picked.
Nowadays there are a variety of deadbolts to choose from. The most common and affordable are the single or double cylinder designs. The single cylinder can only be unlocked by using a key on one side of the door. The double cylinder has a keyhole on both sides of it.
If you want something more sophisticated and are not afraid to spend a bit more money than you might want to purchase one of the keypad deadbolts. These can only be unlocked through the use of a special code that only you and the other residents know. These can cost anywhere between $70 to $600.
While the rim deadbolt lock is efficient at deterring a burglar it is not enough to keep them away. The most experienced and determine burglar will know how to get around even the most efficient of deadbolts.
