How To Install Security Lights
Security is important when it comes to our home. We need to make sure that we are taking the necessary steps to install the right type of locks onto our doors. Another great way to keep your home safe is to install security lights. These can be placed at the entrances of the home and make it easy for you to see if anyone is outside.
Before you start it is important that you turn off all power to the light fixture. When you have turned the breaker off you need to test it with a voltage tester. You don’t want to run the risk of electrocuting yourself and putting yourself in the hospital.
Take the new light fixture from the box. Make sure that you do not lose the parts and screws that it came with. Look at what tools you might need and have them on hand. Now remove the existing fixture by using a cordless drill or a standard flat head or phillips screwdriver.
When the old fixture has been taken off you will be ready to install the base of the security light. Mark where the screws will have to go. If the holes do not match up than you need to use a wood, metal, or masonry bit on the drill and use it on where you have marked where the holes should be.
Match up the source wires to the new wires on the fixture. If the existing wires are too long or short than you need to use wire cutters to strip ¾ of an inch of the plastic from it. Color coordinate the wires and screw in the wire caps till you are confident they are secure.
Place the light fixture onto the base and secure it. Make sure that the rubber seal is even before you screw in the fixture. Turn the power back on and test it out for yourself to make sure that it is working like it should.
