Door Safety Gate
When it comes to our children we need to do everything that is in our power to make sure that they are safe and no harm comes to them. That is why before they are able to start to crawl we purchase the necessary child safety supplies. With these supplies we can cover the outlets and use child door safety gates that will keep them out of certain rooms in the home.
There are many different brands of door safety gates to use around the home. The much larger and more sturdier ones sit on top of stairways to keep your young children from trying to go down without any help. The smaller and more portable ones sit in front of doorways and prevent your children from opening the front door or entering into the kitchen when you are cooking.
Standard Door Safety Gate
The standard door safety gate is the most affordable and is simple to set up. It costs around $20 and will work in front of any door way except for the front or back door. This particular gate is able to be set up and taken down using the latch on the inside of the gate. Smaller children under the age of two will not be able to pull it down unless you have not latched it securely to the doorway. These are either made with wood or plastic and will last for as long as you need it. The only downside to this is that in order for the adult to get past it they have to either climb over it or take it down.
Tall Door Safety Gate
The tall door safety gate comes with optional extensions for those children who find a way to reach over the smaller gates and pull on the latches. It is 42” and uses a pressure mount system that is easy to install without the use of any tools or hardware. Most are made using tubular steel which is strong and not easily damaged. It is able to fit opening between 29 ¼” to 37 ½” and is for children between the ages of six months to two years.
This door safety gate is only able to be used in front of doorways and never at the top of the stairs. Because they do not secure directly into the walls you will still run the risk of the child leaning on it and toppling down the stairs. This particular gate costs between $50 to $90. One of the best advantages to it is that it is designed with a door in the center that opens in both direction to make it easy for adults to walk in and out of the room. Some of these are even designed with small pet doors in the middle that are not large enough for your child.
Stairway Safety Door Gate
If you live in a two story home then you will constantly be worrying about your child trying to get down or up the stairs on their own. The best way to prevent this is to use a stairway safety door gate. These use mounted hardware that secures it directly into the wall at the top of the stairs.
The door of the child door safety gate will open in either direction to keep people from having to climb over it. When the door is closed it is secured with a special latch and sits inside of a small hole. In order to open it you have to lift the latch and the gate at the same time, making it completely child proof. This child gate costs between $20 to $90.
